Why is air conditioning important for data centres?

Data centre air conditioning is necessary to prevent equipment from overheating and keep it operating at the optimal temperature. High temperatures can lead to equipment failing, causing downtime, data loss and disruption to your operations.

A data centre or server room HVAC system can help maintain a consistent temperature and improve ventilation in the building. It’s important to manage the airflow well in a data centre as hot spots can form without adequate heat extraction or cooling.

Norton Air Conditioning can provide a specialised solution to support your data centre cooling requirements, keeping your critical systems safe.

Common data centre air conditioning systems

01

Air cooling

This type of air conditioning system uses AC units to maintain a consistent temperature and humidity level. It allows for greater control over airflow by separating servers into hot and cold aisles where hot air is conditioned and cold air distributed.

02

Liquid cooling

Differently to other critical facility air conditioning systems, a liquid cooling system uses chilled water or refrigerant to cool the data centre. The liquid removes heat from the air by passing through pipes or coils close to the equipment which is producing it.

03

Ducted/HVAC

A comprehensive data centre cooling solution, HVAC systems offer a mixture of heating, ventilation and air conditioning, extracting and distributing air through vents and ductwork. Server room HVAC systems are useful for controlling airflow.
